Host a Moon Party

Vita Spreads Through Parties

Everyone loves a good party, and the rise of the Full Moon offers a perfect reason to host one, two or even three a month. Want to host a Moon Party but don't know how? Here is the four point plan for a simple, inexpensive and awesome Moon Party. More details below.

1.  Moonscope

Do a Moonscoping exercise to determine when and where the Moon rise occurs. This will advise when and where the party might be held. Ideally, you'll be able to see the Moon rise from your home, or a friends place. Choose a night for the party but remember to give your invitees plenty of notice. You can use this Moon calendar, but don't forget to change to location to your city:

2. Guest List

Draw up your guest list being sure to find a good mix to ensure that the party is a success. There is no perfect recipe, but you'll want a diversity of people to get a buzz going. You'll also need enough people versed in Big Talk to help keep the conversation focused on Vita's mission to Advance the Verdant Age.

3. Plan

A simple and most cost effective Moon Party is to invite a bunch of people to bring a bottle and a plate - that way you don't have to do any catering. You'll need some way to play music, maybe some bedding so that people can stay  overnight if the party goes till late, and an itinerary. The itinerary allows you to add some structure to the party.

4. Invite

Send out the invites and don't forget, everyone loves a good party, so you can rise in social hierarchies if you choose your guests right. Don't be afraid to invite people from other social circles. Maybe you'll get invited to their parties and you can teach them Big Talk and the Verdant Age.

5. Enjoy

Remember this is a Vita Moon Party, and you are trying to help advance the Verdant Age. With the right invitees and itinerary, you should be able to foster conditions suited to a night of fun and Big Talk. Most of all, you have to enjoy it, so that you will be happy to do it again, next Full Moon.

Moonscope

What is Moonscoping?

Vita Pod leaders need to be proficient at Moonscoping in order to make the most of the Full Moon ceremony.  Moonscoping is determining the time and place to hold a Moon Party.

About the Full Moon

The Full Moon occurs every 29.53 days when the Sun, Earth and Moon line-up. This alignment of three celestial bodies is called the Sun-Earth-Moon syzygy. In reality, the Moon is only 100% full for a fraction of a second, however, it is 98%+ full over three days. So, for all intents and purposes, the Moon appears to be Full for three nights. Vita Moon Parties take place over three days: on the night of the Full Moon, and the night preceding and after the Full Moon. These three nights are known as the Ooh! and a represented by the symbol: oOo.

The Moon Illusion

The Moon illusion is an optical illusion which causes the Moon to appear larger near the horizon than it does higher up in the sky. It has been known since ancient times and recorded by various cultures.

The Moon Illusion is integral to Vita, as it allows for a powerful spiritual connection with nature from any location on Earth where there is a clear night sky on the Full Moon. A Full Moon rise over Tokyo, Mogadishu or the Serengetti Plane, is equally impressive.

When & Where Will the Moon Rise

To plan a Moon Party, you need to know when and where the Moon will rise. You can find this information using one of many online Moon Calendars.

This calendar is a good one:

Note: the default setting in this link is Tallin, the capital of Estonia.  You'll have to change to location to where you are for accurate information.

Phases of the Moon Rise

In a Vita Moon Party there are a number of key phases:

  • Loom
  • First Peek
  • Full Disc
  • Lost Illusion

Loom: Before the Moon actually becomes visible, it will be possible to see light of the Sun reflected from the Moon interacting with moisture and particles in the atmosphere, making a glow. This is call the Loom.

First Peak: As the Moon rises higher in the sky, the first glimpses of it will become visible. This is called First Peek.

Full Disc: As the Moon continues to rise, it will eventually be free of the horizon and full visible. This is called Full Disc.

Lost Illusion: As the Moon continues to rise, it will eventually move out of the zone where the Moon illusion takes effect, and appear to shrink. When this happens, it is said to move into Lost Illusion.

The time it takes to go from Loom to Lost Illusion is about an hour, and this is the most auspicious time in the Vita Moon Rise Ceremony.

At the Party

Plan an Itinerary

A party needs food, drink, music, and people at the minimum. However, to  make your Moon Party really memorable, it is a good idea to organize some activities and have a theme. Here are some ideas.

Take Earth Selfies

Make an Earth Mask and take Earth Selfies with it. Just print out a picture of Earth, paste it onto a board, cut an oval from the center, mount this on a stick, and hold it against your face. Its fun, and it helps remind people that we are part of Vitae-planeta.

Know Your Iris

Everyone has an iris or two, but most people don’t know what they look like. So, bring out a camera or a smart phone and take some close-up eye photos. It is fascinating to see how much detail is visible inside the whirls and folds of the iris.

Invent Some Monikers

Vitans have monikers: a few words that identify how they emotionally connect to the Living Planet and what is going on. At the Moon Party, invent some monikers and share them.

Do Baseline Training

Baseline is the body of knowledge that Vitans use to understand the world. Baseline Training is learning the pronunciation and definition of key words in the Vitan lexicon. This is achieved by repeating the word three times, and then stating the definition.

Skype Hookup

One way to really boost the party is to hookup with another Moon Party taking place at the same time via Skype. Simply get the Skype going on an iPad or laptop, place the device somewhere safe - maybe in the kitchen - let people interact with the folk in the other party.

A Short Speech

Have someone get up and give a short speech. Something peppy, compelling, interesting and fun, maybe. Maybe its a piece of news that everyone ought to hear. Maybe its a funny observation.
